It is used to accurately measure the depth of the bone bed preparation and can also be used as a paralleling pin. The diameter of the gauge corresponds to the diameter of the final drill, the color marking of the scale is the same as the marking of the scale on the drill. Notches are made between individual lengths for readability on X-ray images. With a value of 12 mm, the notch is deeper.
